Help with a spanish question?

OK, children's shows try to teach Spanish now. But why on Sesame Street, did they say open and closed id 'abiente' and 'serada' yet on Dora they said it is 'abre' and 'sierra'?? I don't know if I spelled those right....are these two different forms of Spanish, such as I've heard that Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Columbians, etc. speak different versions? I am really curious....thank you if you know what's up with that!
