Killing Maggots?????

I dumped some old gardening stuff in my garden, and what do you know, it was crawling with maggots. Can I just dig a hole and bury them, or will they burrow out? Any other good ways to get rid of them, that's at least slightly less disgusting than putting on gloves and dumping the stuff in a garbage bag? (I really don't want to do that....)
