What does collateral examples mean?

Well, it really depends on the subject you are talking about, but I know in graphic design collateral items are marketing material for a business. ie: business cards, letterheads, postcards, brochures, catalogs. So when you say collateral examples it might just mean actual items instead of just taking your word for it. They want tangible items. I hope that helped some.
