Why is islam so misunderstood?

I'm Jewish and I love all people even if they don't love me. As you know, Jew's are misunderstood in a million ways hatefully. Ignorance, and blind faith cause conflict. Islam is a hot topic now, and because of the attention it gets it is often misrepresented. Religion should be about peace and should unite people.
